Aviation Cross Country Flight Planning

Hybrid classes (Live synchronous), on-demand (pre-recorded asynchronous), and discussion cohorts, 4 – 6 hours per day – 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST including two 30 minute breaks. For more detailed information, visit our materials section and download the brochure.

Although Aviation Cross Country Flight Planning will include an introduction into aviation flight planning and will conclude with a final challenge of planning an actual flight. The basics of the private pilot course will be introduced to the students. This will include learning about aerodynamics, weight and balance, meteorology, and navigation. This is a great way to learn about and introduce aviation science.

Program

The three day program will include videos, live sessions, group discussions, and hands on activities. A final flight planning challenge will conclude the course.  It will include a hands on approach to planning a real flight, using navigation charts and real live weather data. Each day will include a live introduction to introduce the daily topics and teams will work together during the day on the daily activities which will cumulate to the final challenge. The final challenge will be the planning of an actual flight with each team utilizing the aviation knowledge they have learned in each session.

What will you learn

This course will focus on aviation/aerospace STEM concepts which will include basic aerodynamics, meteorology, navigation, regulations, and aviation flight planning. This course will conclude with a final hands on flight planning challenge for each team. Videos, materials, and live sessions will be included. Students will have an introduction into basic aviation flight planning, skills, and knowledge which may be expanded on in future courses.

Dr. Deborah Donnelly-McLay’s educational background includes: Education EdD Organizational Leadership, Nova Southeastern University, 2018; ALM History, Harvard University, 2017, MAS Aeronautical Science, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, 1998 BS Aeronautical Science and Technology, Thomas Edison State College, 1995. She has been involved with aviation for over 25 years, as a researcher, a professor and commercial airline pilot/airline captain.
